About HLHR Rehab
For nine years, HLHR Rehab has offered Rosemead and the San Gabriel Valley a mindful, integrative path through addiction recovery — treating mind, body, and spirit as one interconnected whole.
Our Story
HLHR Rehab did not begin with a single founder's ambition — it emerged from a shared urgency. In 2017, a group of Rosemead healthcare providers, civic leaders, and families who had lost loved ones to addiction gathered around a simple question: why did people in the San Gabriel Valley have to travel hours to find compassionate, comprehensive treatment?
That coalition pooled expertise, resources, and resolve. Physicians contributed clinical knowledge. Community organizers mapped the gaps in local services. Families who had navigated the broken treatment landscape shared what they wished had existed. Together, they designed a facility that would treat the whole person — not just the substance, but the pain, disconnection, and spiritual emptiness underneath.
Nine years and more than 3,900 lives later, that founding coalition's vision remains our compass. Every morning meditation, every equine therapy session, every family workshop reflects the original promise: Rosemead deserves a treatment center built by its own community, for its own community.
Our Mission
HLHR Rehab exists to dismantle the stigma that keeps people from seeking help. Addiction is not a character flaw — it is a health condition that responds to skilled, compassionate treatment. We are committed to normalizing recovery, educating our community, and ensuring that no one in the San Gabriel Valley feels shame for reaching out.
Our mission drives everything from the language we use to the partnerships we build with local schools, employers, and faith organizations. When stigma falls, people seek help sooner — and outcomes improve dramatically.
Treatment Philosophy
Our treatment philosophy rests on three interconnected pillars:
- Motivational Enhancement: We meet each person where they are, drawing out intrinsic motivation rather than imposing external pressure. Through motivational interviewing and collaborative goal-setting, clients discover their own reasons to change.
- Spiritual Exploration: Recovery often involves reconnecting with a sense of purpose beyond the self. Whether through meditation, nature immersion, or reflective practice, we create space for each person to explore meaning on their own terms — without prescribing any single belief system.
- Mind-Body Connection: Trauma and addiction live in the body as much as the mind. Yoga, breathwork, swimming, and movement therapy release stored tension and rewire the nervous system, building resilience that talk therapy alone cannot achieve.

Director of Nursing
Diane brings 18 years of nursing experience, including eight years in behavioral health settings, to her role managing our round-the-clock nursing staff. She designed HLHR Rehab's holistic detox support protocol, which pairs standard medical monitoring with guided relaxation techniques. Her calm, compassionate approach sets the tone for every client's first days in treatment.
Carlos Mendez, CADC-II
Holistic Programs Coordinator
A certified addiction counselor and registered yoga instructor, Carlos bridges the gap between clinical treatment and experiential healing. He coordinates our yoga pavilion schedule, equine-assisted therapy sessions, and outdoor fitness programming. Carlos is himself in long-term recovery and draws on his lived experience to connect authentically with clients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their journeys.
What Our Alumni Say
"I spent months preparing to lose my husband to alcohol. Then a friend told us about HLHR Rehab. The equine therapy and daily meditation didn't just help him stop drinking — they helped him become present again. He looks me in the eyes now. He plays with our kids. I am grateful beyond words for this place and the people in it."
— Sandra M., Spouse
"When our 22-year-old son admitted he was addicted to prescription opioids, we were paralyzed with fear. HLHR Rehab's team treated him with the same dignity I would want for any patient in my own practice. The family workshops taught us how to support without enabling, and watching him graduate from the program remains the proudest day of my life."
— David H., Parent
"After fifteen years of night shifts in the ICU, I was using benzodiazepines to sleep and stimulants to wake up. I was terrified my license would be revoked if I sought treatment. HLHR Rehab's staff understood the pressure healthcare workers face and helped me rediscover balance through breathwork and mindfulness. I returned to work with coping tools I should have learned in nursing school."
